Getting started
Switching from a landline
What changes, what stays the same and how to keep your number through the move.
1 min read
Moving your business phones from a traditional landline to RichVoIP is simpler than most owners expect. Your customers keep calling the same number; what changes is how the call reaches you.
What changes
- Calls travel over your internet connection instead of a copper phone line. Your phones plug into the internet — by Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi, depending on the phone.
- You get features a landline can't offer: a smart greeting menu in English, Portuguese and Spanish, call recording and transcription, AI call summaries and voicemail to email.
- Your business line can ring on the desktop and mobile app too, so you can take calls away from the counter.
What stays the same
- Your phone number. We move it for you, with no porting fee and no downtime.
- How you make and answer calls. Pick up, dial, transfer — it works the way your team already expects.
How the switch works
- Free consultation: we learn how your business uses the phone and recommend a setup.
- We move your number: the port usually takes 10 to 14 days. A temporary number or call forwarding can be live in about 15 minutes, so you can start right away.
- We install and train: your phones arrive configured, and we show your team how everything works.
- We stay with you: support in English, Portuguese and Spanish whenever you need it.
One thing to know about 911
911 works differently on internet phones than on landlines — for example, your registered address matters, and calls can be affected by a power or internet outage.
